Formaldehyde Removal

Where it comes from

Formaldehyde-based resins bind the engineered wood that modern renovation is built from: plywood, MDF, particleboard, laminate. Every built-in wardrobe, kitchen cabinet and feature wall releases the gas as it cures, and paints, adhesives and new furnishings add their own volatile organic compounds. The release is invisible, and because the nose adapts within days, families stop smelling a problem that is still there.

In tropical climates the process runs faster and hotter: heat and humidity accelerate off-gassing, and sealed air-conditioned rooms let the gas accumulate overnight. Morning throat irritation, headaches in one particular room, and symptoms that ease when you leave the house are the classic pattern.

Why ventilation alone fails

Opening windows dilutes the gas that is already in the air, but the source keeps producing. A wardrobe carcass can off-gas for years; airing the room for an hour and then sealing it for the evening simply lets levels rebuild. Air purifiers capture particles, not gases, unless specifically equipped, and even then they manage the symptom, not the source.

Effective removal means treating the emitting surfaces themselves so the release is neutralised continuously, whether or not the windows are open.

Our process

  1. Measured assessment. Instrument readings map formaldehyde and total VOC levels room by room against the DOSH ICOP IAQ 2010 ceiling of 0.1 ppm, identifying the dominant emitters.
  2. Photocatalytic source treatment. A catalytic coating is applied to the emitting surfaces: inside wardrobes, across cabinet bodies, on panelling and flooring. As formaldehyde passes through it, it is broken down into carbon dioxide and water, continuously, for years.
  3. Verification. A follow-up measurement shows the levels against the same benchmark. You see the numbers drop; you do not take our word for it.
